Yulia Belousova:
The power of the void
A transformative 8-hour performance exploring the boundaries of body and mind within a concrete reservoir at SPIRAL park, Madeira
Performance/Live Happening: 26. November 2025
Artist Talk & Exhibition Receprion: 14. December 2025
SPIRAL Park
Laboratory for creating a new quality of human experience in Madeira
This performance is the first step toward creating a natural Art Residency for co-creation among artists, musicians, architects, scientists, and entrepreneurs…
Artistic proposal:
Within the park lies an old open-air concrete reservoir — 11 meters long and 4 meters deep — an ideal space for experimenting with new forms of creativity.
On November 26, artist Yulia Belousova will spend eight hours in complete solitude — without food or water — exploring the limits of body and mind within an enclosed space, regardless of weather conditions.
The physical constraint of a concrete structure amidst nature becomes a metaphor for the artist’s inner dialogue — a continuous process of doubt, negotiation, and the search for connection between idea and reality, forming the essence of a creative day.
One working day, eight hours alone — an inquiry into the dance between body and mind, longing to break free.
This work is dedicated to exploring visible and invisible boundaries, and to transcending physical and mental limits
The performance will be documented and transformed into an artwork.
The work will be presented on December 14 during a private exhibition for the friends and patrons of SPIRAL PARK.

YULIA BELOUSOVA
b. 1991, Moscow
I am an artist whose practice is based on dialogue: with the past, with elements of nature, with corporeality, collective experience, and the female role. My works do not assume a strict interpretation and invite the viewer to become an active participant in the process of perception. I strive to create a space for personal experiences and associations, affirming that the viewer’s sensations are no less important than the meanings embedded in the work by the artist.
Working in an interdisciplinary space—using video, performative happenings, and installation—I combine research, intuition, and materiality. Research involves gathering knowledge, collaborating with people from various fields, and drawing on ancient traditional practices and mythologies. Relying on intuition, I sense hidden interconnections, while materiality becomes a means of engaging with the tangible aspects of life. In my works, this process functions as a subtle substance that permeates everyday life, offering the viewer an opportunity to contemplate not only the external but also the internal world.
